Right-Wing-Religious-Wacko

This is the very first RWRW post. I find it necessary to explain why I decided to call this blog by its name…
You see, I feel like I’m in a secret underground society. The metro DC area is so liberal, a whopping 90% of DC turnouts voted for Kerry in the 2004 elections. Maryland results were a bit better (56% for Kerry), but I would guess that the percentage would be much higher in the greater metro area.
So, how is it that a conservative Christian such as myself wound up in a predicament like this? Well, that’s a long story for another day. I do find it discouraging, however, to be a voter who is constantly in the minority. I never will understand how Maryland Governor Ehrlich won the 2002 election. I guess the voters wanted a change.
I am upset when colleagues at work or friends decide to spout off partisan antics, like I would agree with everything they say. Can they even fathom that I might have a far different party affiliation, or more significantly, a much different worldview? It seems everywhere I go it is assumed that I must be a liberal, someone who upholds the virtues of total tolerance and moral relativism. Sometimes I try to shock them by telling them I lean right. It usually shuts them up, but then I worry they will view me or treat me differently.
This blog is about expression - expressing the conservative views that I cannot seem to share with my own colleagues and friends. This blog is not meant to be a defense of Christianity or conservative thought. Instead, I will try to provide one viewpoint, sometimes trying to challenge my own worldviews. I try to be fair - read the news on both the right and the left. Some of my arguments will be based on fact and others on gut or opinion.
Call me a right-wing-religious-wacko if you must.
