The New York Yankees: The fair-weather fan’s best friend!
*ducks*
I can defend myself
Grew up and lived much of my life in southern Connecticut. No more Hartford Whalers. No professional teams (now there’s the WNBA Sun). Since I lived an hour from NYC, the Yankees were my team. I bleed Yankee blue
The NY Yankees and UConn college basketball are my big teams…
Perhaps I’ll be bandwagon about adopting an NL team - the Washington Nationals (since I now live in the area) - although I’m not a big fan of the name “Nationals” - just seems redundant to have that name in the National League. And it was quite adolescently funny when I could hear fans on a televised game yelling “Go.Nats!” Say that a few times fast. Great cheer, indeed.
The only thing better is last night (10/4) when the Yankees won their first playoff game and the Red Sox lost theirs - Big time. But one loss does not the Red Sox losers make.
Go Yanks!
I suppose, since you’re from near there, I can give you a pass. But that doesn’t stop the Yankees from representing pretty much everything that’s wrong with professional sports.
Then again, I’m a lifelong Brewers fan, so there could be some sour grapes, there, too…
Rooting for the Brewers must be an exercise in patience. However, I must say, when I first became a fan of the Yankees, it was at about 6 years of age when they won the 1978 series. 18 years before they won again - I was reasonably patient.
My brother lives halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. It appears he is a suffering Blackhawks fan, but fortunately he too has taken his Yankee and UConn fandome with him to the area…
You have a brother in Kenowhere? (AKA Kenosha) That’d be about halfway. Although I suppose you could be referring to anyplace in between Racine and Gurnee…
I’m pretty ignorant of the area - but he’s in Park City, IL - about an hour from Milwaukee and an hour from Chicago (at least the airports).
I believe he at least went to watch the Bucks when Ray Allen (because he was a UConn player) played. I think now he’ll go to see Bulls games because of another former UConn standout, Ben Gorden.
Not a bad guess on my part. He’s right next door to Gurnee.
BTW, how about dem Yankees? *ducks*
Yes, I am pretty bummed right now. What I hate is staying up until midnight with no payoff for losing sleep.
Fortunately, despite my sadness, I plan my fandom well since college basketball is just around the corner. Unfortunately, being a fan of UConn basketball is no walk in the park either with idiotic moves like this.
