Wacko! is a conservative Christian living in the liberal Washington, D.C. metro suburbs. He will question both the left and right and offer conservative viewpoints in a thoughtful way. This is his take on faith, culture, politics, and society.

Ray Nagin is a totally immature child, who crapped in his pants and blames the president. He had the evacuation plan right in front of him, which clearly instructed him to use city buses, school buses and other modes of transportation to get people to safety. He sat on his ass along with the comatose governor and failed to execute the emergency plans laid out in front of them. They were the responsible parties for protecting their respective constituencies and they failed to act, and have consistently failed to accept any responsibility for their lack of leadership. It is pitiful, Nagin says he is now shocked by what the president knew, my children knew that when a cat 5 storm is bearing down on you, you react and execute the plan you have in front of you. Nagin and the governor did not act, and they are primarily to blame for the local disaster. The fact that the levees failed hindered the federal government logistical moves. The president had to call the governor on sunday nite in an attempt to get her off of her ass, to authorize federal access to the state, and she did not act. Why are these two children getting a free pass? Nagin and the governor are a disgrace and do not deserve to serve. They failed miserably, have shown no character or responsibility and should be removed immediately.

That's funny and unfortunately true. If a Caucasian Mayor were to lament over a predominately Anglo-Saxon district in that same fashion, leftists would be outraged.

You have confused prejudice, which everyone has, with racism. Racism is prejudice that is backed up by institutional power. By this definition, black folks cannot be racist, although they can be prejudiced. Think about it.

Jonathan,

Thanks for stopping by. Although I do not post as frequently as I'd like, I hope you will visit the site in the future so we can continue to dialogue.

As someone who identifies himself as a conservative evangelical, I do see a lot wrong with the conservative evangelical community. I agree with you that the tendency is to judge rather than actually doing something.
Christians should only judge other Christians - not the rest of the world. We are called to hate the sin and love the sinner, not judge them. Why? Because our call is to judge only those who profess to hold to the same standard: Jesus Christ and His perfection. We do not judge the world, that is His job.

What Bono suggests is not following the dogma of Christianity, but to instead mimic Jesus. He is right to challenge persons of all faiths to help the poor. He's given me a kick in the pants. I'll have to check out his organization and make a contribution.

Thanks again for stopping by!

As a young, San Francisco Bay Area native I would never think that I would be in agreement with a "conservative view," what ever "liberal" and "conservative" mean. I was raised in a very strict Christian household where love and respect for yourself and others was the rule. I find as I get older that some "liberals" out here around the golden gate and the nation are scattered in an agenda. There does not seem to be a solution to the liberal whistle blowing. The right wing Christian folk, and there are a lot of them out here surprisingly, tend to focus only on what everyone is doing wrong and not enough on how to help without judgement. I find your blog refreshing and gives me hope that our nation will not continue to be as polarized in view as it has. Baby steps.

Gary, Gary, Gary, come on now. I am a black man and agree that there are black racists. The statement that more blacks are racist has no merit and you know it. Everybody has a prejudice against something or someone. The "generations ago" comment was way out of line. Racism exists everywhere, especially if we have views that one group is more or less racist than another. If we were all the same hue we would seperate by hair color or something equally silly. I am sorry if you have had some bad encounters with black folk, but I have had plenty with whites, and If I ever make a generalization like you previously had I would ask myself what can I do to change my view. Oh, Nagin was totally out of line. Pray for Mr. Nagin and his view on what God wants.

Thanks for the kind words and mention of my posting. The problem is also compounded by the fact that Muslims are "playing to type" as the media has just made "Islamic Terrorist" the standard descriptor for anyone, whether Palestinian suicide, Iraqi bomber, Pakistani shooter, Egyptian kidnapper, etc. That abortion doctor killer Rudolph guy, the recent gay-bar-attack killer, and especially Tim McVeigh were NEVER called "Christian Terrorists". The vast majority of the Muslims out in streets also happen to be mostly uneducated, economically crushed, easily misled and full of anger overall. Makes for a dangerous combination.
