Seven by Seven Meme

Friday, December 2nd, 2005

I’ve been tagged by my friendly adversary, TGirsch, over at Lean Left. I’m glad he didn’t move in a Biblical direction and edit the meme to “Seventy Times Seven.” That would make for much more work than I have time for. Anyway, the basic idea is that I am to answer 7 inquiries with 7 answers each. Tom asks me to answer:

  • Seven things to do before I die
  • Seven things I cannot do
  • Seven things that attract me to (…)
  • Seven things I say most often
  • Seven books (or series) that I love

Tony Snow’s a Pisser

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Pisser

  1. One that is extremely disagreeable.
  2. One that is extraordinary or remarkable.
  3. A person who urinates.

Tony Snow Web Player Advertising

My radio habits while at work have recently changed. I tend to listen to music in the morning, but more recently I decided to check out Tony Snow’s political talk radio show. I enjoy him and have respect for the man (see definition #2 above), but I was surprised at the advertising (Comedy Central’s Drawn Together) that FOX implemented on their Internet radio player for Tony’s show.

UPDATE

After contacting the show, here’s the response I received from one of the staff:

“Thank you VERY much for sending this image.

I read Tony’s mailbox and a few people sent in emails explaining this ad they saw on the site. I couldn’t believe that we had such an ad displayed on the Listen Live function. So I sent the emails to our Vice Presidents, but yours is especially helpful and I’m going to forward it since it actually shows the picture.

Thanks so much.”

Fox Cancels ALCS After Just Two Episodes

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

I just had to pass along this fake news story by The Onion:

LOS ANGELES—Fox Entertainment president Gail Berman announced Thursday that the network is pulling the plug on ALCS, the new three-hour drama/comedy about two rival clubs competing for the coveted “pennant,” just two shows into its run. “This uninspired series featured a cast of uninteresting characters, a hackneyed plot, and more boring narration than actual meaningful dialogue,” Berman said. “We tried to find an audience on Tuesdays, then on Wednesdays, and we were prepared to move its time slot to Friday nights or Saturday afternoons before ultimately realizing that the series had zero potential.” Television experts cited several other possible reasons for the early cancellation, such as the overly expensive sets and costumes, the show’s subject matter, and the fact that the series’ projected breakout character—a brash, outspoken black man named Carl Everett—tested very poorly with audiences. Fox remains optimistic about its other fledgling program, NLCS, but critics say the series has “very little chance” of making it past seven episodes.

Nicolas Cage’s Super Baby

Nicolas Cage's Super Baby

Nicolas Cage is one weird man. From E!Online:

“Nicolas Cage never got to be to Superman. But he apparently has high hopes for his new son.

The Oscar-winning actor and his wife, Alice Kim Cage, welcomed a baby boy, Kal-el Coppola Cage, into the world Monday morning, publicist Annett Wolf announced. The tyke’s unusual moniker also happens to be the birth name of Krypton’s favorite son.

“They are healthy and happy and it’s quite lovely,” Wolf said in a statement.

Cage, an avowed comic book fanboy, was briefly slated to play play Clark Kent in a Tim Burton remake before the project was scrapped to make way for a younger incarnation.”

The First Ever Gay Slasher Film!

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

Hellbent movie

Genres, genres everywhere. I thought it was bad enough when I felt the need to classify Christian music to a level of specificity that matches mainstream music…

Music>>Rock>>(Christian) Rock>>(Christian) Alternative Rock

Now we see the following…

Movies>>Horror>>Slasher>>(Gay) Slasher

Movies>>Western>>(Gay) Western

It seems that the homosexual agenda is trying to get its claws in absolutely everything, even when sexuality has no bearing on a genre. What does sexuality have to do with a slasher movie? I can understand a homosexual love story, which Brokeback Mountain appears to portray. However, it seems very difficult for me to buy a homosexual love story that takes place in the 1960s in Wyoming, of all places! Sure, it’s possible, but this is nothing more than the homosexual agenda trying to normalize the lifestyle to the extreme.

Stick to the Music, Kanye West (Reprise)

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005

I recently commented on Kanye West’s antics, and W.C. Varones pointed out another gem when West took part in the Live 8 festivities in Philadelphia. Here’s what he said to MTV:

“[t]he concept of AIDS alone—what my parents always told me, who are activists—is that it was a man-made disease in the first place that was placed in Africa just like how crack was placed in the black community to break up the Black Panther Party.”

I do not deny that racism exists in America. However, I have a hard time accepting some of the recent claims. What concerns me most is that it seems that these claims only fuel the fire of racism - they are destructive (not constructive) criticisms. I do know of friends who believe that the reaction to Katrina was racist, but I just cannot get to the heart of this belief.

In contrast to Kanye West, U2 is such a class act. Despite criticism from more ignorants like Mos Def, U2 performed a phenomenal rendition of “One” with none other than Mary J. Blige for the Hurricane Relief Benefit: Shelter From The Storm. So, instead of introducing divisive dialogue, U2 preaches a message of coming together, a message that became that much stronger when Blige joined in. Here’s some of the lyrics from the song:

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other

Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we’re not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

One…life

One

Here’s the kicker. Despite Kanye West’s criticism of white leadership and Mos Def’s criticism of Bono for “turning his back” on the Hurricane Katrina tragedy, Kanye West will be opening for U2 on the December leg of their North American tour!

Stick to the Music, Kanye West

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

I’m not very familiar with Kanye West, except that I know he has won a few grammy awards and he has created a foundation to battle school dropout rates.

Any respect I had for the man has since fizzled after hearing his remarks on last Saturday night’s “A Concert for Hurricane Relief” seen on NBC. West’s remarks appeared to be racist, in my opinion. Here’s a few ignorant notables spoken by West:

“George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”

America is set up “to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible.”

“I hate the way they portray us [African Americans] in the media. If you see a black family, it says they’re looting. See a white family, it says they’re looking for food.”

“They’ve given them permission to go down and shoot us [African-Americans].”

More Power to Ya

For me, the highlight of the concert was hearing Tim McGraw sing “More Power to Ya,” a Christian song written and performed by Petra on their 1982 album with the same name. Petra was the first Christian rock band I listened to. I appreciate the band because they were trailblazers in the genre of Christian rock and heavily influenced many of the bands I listened to in the future (and still do).

This is where the rubber meets the road. As Christians, we are commanded to help the poor and needy, the fatherless and the widow. Please send contributions to the Red Cross.

They Don’t Make Liberals Like They Used To

Make Love Not War

Ah, the 60s and 70s. A time when anti-war liberals embraced the “make love, not war” credo. On that note, I was shocked to read Michelle Malkin’s blog today which, in part, displayed some hate mail she recently received.

I’m sure these people do not represent many civil liberals; nonetheless, these people give the left a very bad name. For good or for ill, we live in a democracy where we can freely debate and express our views. Unfortunately, there just happens to be some who are not articulate enough to participate in a civil debate. Instead, they must resort to using 5th grade playground tactics - spewing hateful, hide-behind-the-Internet-because-I-have-no-guts messages. Would they show the email they wrote to their mothers? Certainly it’s the behavior of these individuals that might make me change my “intelligent design” views and believe that there just might be something to evolutionary theory if they can be used as evidence in support of the missing link.

What goes on in the minds of these true “wackos?” It dumbfounds me that anyone in their right mind could be against war and violence yet send emails that include (and this is the only “clean” portion I could display) things like,

“I hope your [Michelle Malkin's] entire family perishes in a war of your liking.”

I thought right wing religious wackos had a monopoly on racial prejudice and hate speech. I guess I was wrong.

Don Back to the Mike

Mike Sorce a.k.a. 'Don Geronimo'

Two weeks after his wife was tragically killed in a car crash, Don Geronimo of the Don and Mike (Radio) Show [listen here online from 3-7 pm est] returns to the airwaves this Monday, August 1, 2005. This will make for must-hear radio, as Don is giving all of his colleagues the day off so he can talk to his audience alone. Even if you’re not a fan of the show, I would encourage you to listen to this man as he explains what this loss has done to him. Again, my thoughts are with Don and his family and I pray that this horrific event makes him a better man.

Geronimo’s Wife Killed In Car Wreck

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Car Accident

I enjoy listening to the Don and Mike Show on the radio for my afternoon drive home (3-7 pm est) [listen to them online here]. This is what I read on DCRTV today:

Freda Sorce“Freda Sorce, the wife of WJFK-FM afternoon man Don Geronimo, was killed in an auto accident on Route 90 near Ocean City MD on Sunday. Apparently, neither her husband, whose real name is Mike Sorce, nor their son, Bart, were with her when the tragedy occurred, our sources say. She was traveling westbound on 90, when a vehicle avoiding an eastbound accident swerved into the westbound lane hitting her Lexus head-on. Mrs. Sorce was taken to University Of Maryland’s Shock Traunt Unit in Baltimore where she died. She was 50. Before marrying Geronimo, the then Freda Wright had worked at a number of radio stations in the DC area. More soon…..”

I am in complete shock. Love her or hate her, Freda was part of the show. I enjoyed it when she would call in and speak with the gang. I also thought it was sweet that they would show obvious love and affection towards each other.

Frankly, I am really concerned for Don and how he will deal with this tragedy. My heartfelt prayers go out to the Sorce family and everyone involved with the show.

More coverage here.
