Don Geronimo: 'I'm a Different Person'

Local CBS news recently interviewed Don Geronimo (a.k.a., Michael Sorce) of the Don and Mike Show regarding the loss of his wife this past July. The interview was very tasteful, with Don being sure he was not pimping out his radio show. Instead, he was very candid about how he’s dealt with her loss and provided an honest glimpse inside how one deals with such tragedy.

The Power of Stern

Monday, January 30th, 2006

It’s amazing to me the power that Howard Stern held over the terrestrial airwaves. Congress proposed indecency legislation, primarily because of his lewd and vulgar radio show. Now that he’s gone to satellite radio, it appears that terrestrial radio is still threatened by him. Before he left the air, CBS radio changed the branding for its talk shows to label them “Free FM” - a statement to counter those willing to pay to hear Stern once he went to Sirius. They did not stop there, however.

Note the branding that Stern created for his new station and the logo that CBS uses for the site that streams their talk radio online. Is it a coincidence that both logos have raised fists? Stern’s logo appears to be a statement against the suppression of free speech rights. On the other hand, CBS uses ‘KYou’ to exemplify personalized formats. I wonder who stole the raised fist logo?

Tony Snow’s a Pisser

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Pisser

  1. One that is extremely disagreeable.
  2. One that is extraordinary or remarkable.
  3. A person who urinates.

Tony Snow Web Player Advertising

My radio habits while at work have recently changed. I tend to listen to music in the morning, but more recently I decided to check out Tony Snow’s political talk radio show. I enjoy him and have respect for the man (see definition #2 above), but I was surprised at the advertising (Comedy Central’s Drawn Together) that FOX implemented on their Internet radio player for Tony’s show.

UPDATE

After contacting the show, here’s the response I received from one of the staff:

“Thank you VERY much for sending this image.

I read Tony’s mailbox and a few people sent in emails explaining this ad they saw on the site. I couldn’t believe that we had such an ad displayed on the Listen Live function. So I sent the emails to our Vice Presidents, but yours is especially helpful and I’m going to forward it since it actually shows the picture.

Thanks so much.”

Don Back to the Mike

Mike Sorce a.k.a. 'Don Geronimo'

Two weeks after his wife was tragically killed in a car crash, Don Geronimo of the Don and Mike (Radio) Show [listen here online from 3-7 pm est] returns to the airwaves this Monday, August 1, 2005. This will make for must-hear radio, as Don is giving all of his colleagues the day off so he can talk to his audience alone. Even if you’re not a fan of the show, I would encourage you to listen to this man as he explains what this loss has done to him. Again, my thoughts are with Don and his family and I pray that this horrific event makes him a better man.

Geronimo’s Wife Killed In Car Wreck

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Car Accident

I enjoy listening to the Don and Mike Show on the radio for my afternoon drive home (3-7 pm est) [listen to them online here]. This is what I read on DCRTV today:

Freda Sorce“Freda Sorce, the wife of WJFK-FM afternoon man Don Geronimo, was killed in an auto accident on Route 90 near Ocean City MD on Sunday. Apparently, neither her husband, whose real name is Mike Sorce, nor their son, Bart, were with her when the tragedy occurred, our sources say. She was traveling westbound on 90, when a vehicle avoiding an eastbound accident swerved into the westbound lane hitting her Lexus head-on. Mrs. Sorce was taken to University Of Maryland’s Shock Traunt Unit in Baltimore where she died. She was 50. Before marrying Geronimo, the then Freda Wright had worked at a number of radio stations in the DC area. More soon…..”

I am in complete shock. Love her or hate her, Freda was part of the show. I enjoyed it when she would call in and speak with the gang. I also thought it was sweet that they would show obvious love and affection towards each other.

Frankly, I am really concerned for Don and how he will deal with this tragedy. My heartfelt prayers go out to the Sorce family and everyone involved with the show.

More coverage here.
